4YP for Young People
Pembroke Road Surgery is a ‘4YP’
Practice.
4YP Bristol aims to make services more
'young person friendly' so that young
people know that they can be assured of
receiving prompt, confidential help and
advice for health issues, with a special
emphasis on sexual health, relationships
and contraception.
Participating clinics, pharmacies and
surgeries have to meet certain standards
including confidentiality and
accessibility.
The service is available to young people
under the age of 25, whether or not they
are currently registered with the
Practice. Special cards are made
available for fast-track appointment
requests, free condoms are supplied on
the 'C-card' scheme, chlamydia testing
is encouraged and contraceptive advice
offered.
As part of this service the Nursing Team
send out leaflets to teenagers inviting
them into the Practice for a general
health check with their routine
vaccinations at 14-15 years of age. This
also opens the opportunity for
discussion with regard to contraception,
sexual health and lifestyle issues. The
leaflet also provides internet links for
accessing support agencies.
