Primary Care Networks
What are they?
Since the NHS was created in 1948, the population has grown and people are living longer. Many people are living with long term conditions such as diabetes and heart disease, or suffer with mental health issues and may need to access their local health services more often.
To meet these needs, practices have begun working together and with community, mental health, social care, pharmacy, hospital and voluntary services in their local areas in primary care networks.
Primary care networks build on the core of current primary care services and enable greater provision of proactive, personalised, coordinated and more integrated health and social care. Clinicians describe this as a change from reactively providing appointments to proactively care for the people and communities they serve. Where emerging primary care networks are in place in parts of the country, there are clear benefits for patients and clinicians.
Our Primary Care Network - Healthwest
Our Primary Care Network is called Healthwest. The four practices that comprise our network are Pembroke Road Surgery, The Family Practice, The Student Health Service and Whiteladies Health Centre. Our network covers nearly 70,000 patients located in Stoke Bishop, Bishopston, Henleaze, Redland, Clifton, Hotwells and Cotham.
Our Primary Care Network staff include Will Shipp (Social Prescriber) and Laura Postelnicu (Clinical Pharmacist).

Most of the services we offer are free under the NHS, however we are more than happy to accommodate non NHS work such as insurance forms, medicals, DVLA forms, TWIMC letters etc.
We do not countersign passport applications.
As these services are not covered by the NHS a standard charge may be made in line with the British Medical Association recommendations. The fee will reflect both the doctor's time to carry out the service and the doctor's professional opinion and it may also include the cost of nursing or secretarial support, stationery and consumables.
If you wish to pay an invoice electronically then please contact the Practice Manager for BACS details.
