Repeat Prescriptions

Since early 2021, the repeat prescriptions for your practice (Whiteladies Health Centre, The Students’ Health Service, The Family Practice, Pembroke Road Surgery) have been managed by the Healthwest Prescribing Hub.

The four practices decided to pool our resources to simplify and streamline the prescription service, reducing wastage, liaising with pharmacies, synchronising repeat prescriptions, undertaking medication reviews and empowering patients to take control of their prescriptions and medications.

The Prescribing Hub is based at one of our practices and gives all our patients a single point of service for your prescription needs, providing continuity and a high level of service.

Use the NHS App

The easiest way to order your repeat medications is via the NHS app.

Other apps are available, but the NHS app links more seamlessly with our computers and it also allows you to see more information about your care than other apps.

Order By Email

Alternatively, if you do not have an online services account or would like to request medications that are not on your repeat prescription, please email your requests

Please email your requests to our PCN Prescribing Hub at bnssg.healthwestph@nhs.net

All email requests must include:

  • your full name
  • date of birth
  • your registered practice
  • nominated pharmacy
  • full details of requested items (name, dosage, quantity etc.)

Please only order medication when it is due. We can only issue up to a maximum of 7 to 10 days in advance, this is in line with NHS guidelines to ensure patient safety and to avoid medication wastage. If your request falls outside of that it will not be issued.

This e-mail service is only for prescription requests and associated queries. We will not respond to general and clinical queries.

Handwritten requests

You can order at the practice

Handwritten prescription requests can be accepted by your practice if you are unable to submit online or via email.

Please do not submit via e-consults as this will seriously delay the issuing of your prescription.

Prescription Queries

If you have any queries regarding your prescription, please call our PCN Prescribing Hub on 0117 915 0265.

Please note this is for queries only, we cannot take orders for prescription items over the telephone. Phone lines are closed on Wednesday between 12pm to 2pm.

Please allow 7 working days before collecting your prescription from your nominated pharmacy. Always check with the pharmacy if they have your prescription before contacting the prescribing hub.

We thought it would be helpful to describe the perfect/ideal journey of your prescription:

1. Request for medication submitted via NHS App

2. Request reviewed by prescribing hub

3. Request passed to clinician for signing

4. Prescription arrives electronically at your pharmacy for dispensing

5. You collect you medicines from your pharmacy

If you submit your request via email rather than via the NHS app then this requires staff to manually input your request into our computer system and will add a delay compared with using the app. If your medication is requested too early or you request an unusual medication or unusual quantity, this will be referred to a clinician who will review the request which adds a further step in the process.

We understand that timely access to your medications is important for your health and delays are a considerable source of stress. The Prescribing Hub, and all those involved in processing your prescriptions, aim to provide a seamless service from your requesting to collecting your medications.
